Can you really become fluent with duolingo?
You absolutely cannot become completely fluent with Duolingo alone.
You can achieve limited basic fluency, as in very basic, but that’s hardly a good definition.
Duolingo will get you a high A2 or low B1.
With other resources, expect a high B1 (B2 in reading if you use Immersion)..
Why is duolingo bad?
The scope of duolingo is very limited. I think it’s well established that most courses get you to somewhere around A2, B1 at best, which is just enough to be a bit challenging, but not enough to make you able to expand your knowledge on your own.
Is there anything better than duolingo?
Busuu offers a language learning experience that compares to Duolingo. They have a structured curriculum that you can progress through involving audio, vocabulary, and other gamified experiences. However, unlike Duolingo, Busuu has a more limited free version as they have a premium subscription-based business model.
Is duolingo a waste of time?
It’s a waste of time. In fact, it’s just as bad as the education system Von Ahn criticizes. Duolingo outsources its translation services, allowing for awkward sentences to slip in undetected. And translation (the core of its platform) is already widely known to be an ineffective way to learn a language.
Is Babbel better than duolingo?
The language coverage of Duolingo is impressive however and the gamified aspects are clever and fun (provided you don’t spend too much time on it). Babbel has less languages but does them better than Duolingo. You can tell that Babbel has actually put effort into hiring language experts to craft proper lessons.
